Mom’s Sloppy Joes

You can make sloppy joes a bunch of different ways — spicy, sweet, with bacon, with cheese, even with beer. This is my favorite version.

  • 1 lb ground beef ( we do 80/20 grind)
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 heaping TB brown sugar
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard (squirt-kind, not powder)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper

Cook ground beef, crumbling as you go. Drain fat. Mix all remaining ingredients in a bowl and add to the ground beef. Mix thoroughly with meat and warm through for a few minutes. Serve on buns, preferably with a side of mac & cheese.

Note:

The trick to ‘Sloppy Joe Perfection’ is grilling the buns in butter until crispy and light brown – yum !
